Watching and Waiting

The wait is almost over, kids!   My kids have been so excited they can hardly sleep.  You know, with visions of sugar plums dancing in their head.  Christmas Eve is almost here and you know what that means.  You better watch out... 'cause Santa Claus is coming to town.   

Holiday Art

I teach art to second and fifth graders once a month at Silverdale Elementary (Audrey's and Sam's school).  Each month I present a print by a famous artist, teach a little about the artist, and then we make an art project mimicking techniques used by that artist. December's projects were particularly fun.  

  

This is Sam's nutcracker in metallic marker and colored pencil on black construction paper.  I gave each of the kids rectangular templates for the torso and head of the nutcracker and then showed them the various shapes to use in drawing a nutcracker.  

The kids were so proud of their work.  I was really impressed with how well they turned out!  

Audrey's class did multi-media collages for Christmas.  I brought in live poinsettias for a model and gave them paint, white/black paper, glitter, glue, and gold wrapping paper.  They created the flower petals using a petal-shaped sponge on white paper.    Both of these ideas came from web sites:  Deep Space Sparkle and Art Projects for Kids.  I highly recommend both of these websites.  

Tiny Singers

Grace is the fourth Christensen child to attend Creative Connections Preschool.  Here she is performing at the annual Christmas program.   

Grace was so excited to sing "Christmas Bells." 

  

She started out strong, very animated and on cue.  

Then she got nervous.  The hands went in the mouth....

...next the skirt found its way to her mouth!  

Hi Mom!  Look, I'm one of only 2 girls in a class full of boys!

Audrey made these cute little turkey creations for Thanksgiving place settings.
 Aren't they cute?

The kids LOVE the punch pictured in the goblet.  It is equal parts ginger ale,

 pineapple juice, and cranberry juice.  We call it "CRAZY JUICE" 

since it is crazy good and the sugar tends to make the kids go crazy!

I arranged these flowers! 

 

Grace calls these "ninja" bread houses. Ha ha!

Goal Scoring Machine

Jared had a great soccer season this year.  At the end of season party, the team mom presented the boys with a photo book instead of a trophy :).  Isn't that a great idea?   Each boy had a feature page with highlights from the season.   Then they all got to sign each others' books. 

 Someone captured some really great pictures of Jared in action.  This series of pictures happened in a matter of 5 seconds!    How it it that when I am behind the camera at soccer games, nothing exciting happens?   Oh well, at least somebody caught him scoring a goal!  I love that she snapped a picture of the ball flying past the goalie.

 P.S.  If you notice, Jared's coach signed  his book saying that he is a goal scoring machine.  Coach Ian also admitted that for the first time ever, he got beat by a player--Jared!
